Volunteer with AALNC and Advance Your LNC Career
By Karen Wilkinson
AALNC offers abundant volunteer opportunities for LNCs who are looking to get involved, expand their knowledge base and network with fellow professionals. Additionally, the volunteer opportunities available are catered to those in the beginning of their careers, as well as to LNCs who have several years of experience.
For New LNCs
Volunteering with AALNC can prove to be a critical step in LNC career development, allowing LNCs to augment their presence among LNC peers. Currently, AALNC offers opportunities for new LNCs to serve on the Content Planning & Education Committee and consult on the planning of all AALNC educational programming, as well as support the implementation of products and services. LNCs provide valuable perspective regarding content needs of fellow LNCs, given their unique clinical backgrounds. By volunteering with the Content Planning & Education Committee, LNCs can identify topics that should be addressed in upcoming webinars and other educational offerings.
Given the Committee is also comprised of advanced LNCs, new LNCs can leverage these volunteer opportunities to network and access new knowledge. Additionally, volunteers interested in leadership development gain exposure to project lead opportunities relative to various initiatives throughout the year.
Volunteers within this new Committee will also have a bird’s eye view of modules available for review; by volunteering, LNCs will have access to valuable educational content for free and earn continuing education (CE) credits.
For Experienced LNCs
Experienced LNCs looking to volunteer for and beyond committees can take advantage of opportunities to serve as experts for LNC Practice Issues. Experienced LNCs who have a desire to augment their leadership skills may moderate SIGs, where they can stir up conversation and answer any questions that arise throughout the discussion.
AALNC also invites experienced LNC volunteers to provide input regarding strategic goals and the future of AALNC education. Additional opportunities include speaking at Forum, hosting a webinar, authoring learning modules, contributing an article for The Briefing, or submitting a manuscript for the Journal of Legal Nurse Consulting.
Take the Next Step
AALNC boasts flexibility in its volunteer opportunities. Interested LNCs can take advantage of isolated opportunities or an annual commitment, such as a position on the Content Planning & Education Committee, Forum Planning Committee, or Journal Editorial Committee. While the current call for committee volunteers and subject matter experts closes on March 10th, LNCs looking to get involved can submit for consideration year-round. Volunteering is truly a great way to give back to your organization and advance in your profession.
